All of the usual excuses are to blame, real life etc etc.....I'll spare you the details. I've done a hell of a lot of hobbying in the past year though and I think it's about time some of that made its way on to the blog. First off I want to share a few kitbashed Adeptus Mechanicus characters I've added to the ever growing army.</span></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG6p9by2rsFkc9KqDHwWWyOFOnmUmvBnhEyfhLhZv1DtkBgPTES1l8LDwkt4xbVkYybyXIJRVwHnVce1MV76jElhkgwekRB3XCW0LUehHQbnI4lKluG-3_-pr_jT1jtDSIBOj0wSgaIZ4frFF2BJ8rxvPa2-CW6bKnGeR1FQBf5mBqjA1Z_Kaa48NY/s3972/PSX_20200907_205503.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3972" data-original-width="3096" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG6p9by2rsFkc9KqDHwWWyOFOnmUmvBnhEyfhLhZv1DtkBgPTES1l8LDwkt4xbVkYybyXIJRVwHnVce1MV76jElhkgwekRB3XCW0LUehHQbnI4lKluG-3_-pr_jT1jtDSIBOj0wSgaIZ4frFF2BJ8rxvPa2-CW6bKnGeR1FQBf5mBqjA1Z_Kaa48NY/w311-h400/PSX_20200907_205503.jpg" width="311" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: x-small;">A humble missionary, spreading the word of the Omnissiah.</span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><span style="font-family: verdana;">I made this guy out of a bunch of different parts but the bulk of the model is based on the Blackstone fortress navigator. Last week I pledged to paint a hydra to join my old school goblin army and I've raced ahead with the painting. Behold the result below!</span></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI2FtwDnzZBUk0RbCetQwJuolLARpftWhKMfenZkXI88noSOZhID7LuAC0JYFMM-XjFLyzO0gQXdmKgDgRwDbS7wU1NfGdv8MOlyf9_-vMzrZu3KkErK3J1kKfthLI2xg_MNRDcRmvHCo/s2048/Hydra+side.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1578" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI2FtwDnzZBUk0RbCetQwJuolLARpftWhKMfenZkXI88noSOZhID7LuAC0JYFMM-XjFLyzO0gQXdmKgDgRwDbS7wU1NfGdv8MOlyf9_-vMzrZu3KkErK3J1kKfthLI2xg_MNRDcRmvHCo/w309-h400/Hydra+side.jpg" width="309" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: x-small;">Somehow, it's finished.</span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div><span style="font-family: verdana;">Yep that's right, I went and got all excited and finished my pledge in the first week. It wasn't all plain sailing though and I'm still not one hundred percent sure about the finished model. If you like it, leave some positive reinforcement in the comments to stop me from repainting the damn thing!</span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana;">As I said <a href="http://berserkerbladeblog.blogspot.com/2021/03/monster-march-warhammer-hydra-week-1.html" target="_blank">last time</a>, I really wasn't sure which colours to use on this beastie. I knew I wanted to use green so that it tied in with the goblins. So I started with a Vallejo yellow-green basecoat, but that really didn't look right.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana;"><br /></span></div><div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5aNFHyu73sJHEegHbjEV4ezxh4sRyLjKaEFXRvKFOB8lBTv2tlXIN5yX9bELIivepu0W7geIIcwTQehzRr-xQBA3_GAcaGtLVgozOZ7vgr7oCl9b6whHw3z7TbwtO8sDEz72hwe9eqRY/s2048/wip+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5aNFHyu73sJHEegHbjEV4ezxh4sRyLjKaEFXRvKFOB8lBTv2tlXIN5yX9bELIivepu0W7geIIcwTQehzRr-xQBA3_GAcaGtLVgozOZ7vgr7oCl9b6whHw3z7TbwtO8sDEz72hwe9eqRY/w300-h400/wip+1.jpg" width="300" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: x-small;">Yeah, I hate it.</span></td></tr></tbody></table><span style="font-family: verdana;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana;">After doing this basecoat on Wednesday night, I slept on it and then covered all the green areas with a layer of contrast terradon turquoise the next day. That made me feel a little better about things.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana;">I chose the orange because a hydra strikes me as a semi-aquatic creature and I thought something like a fire bellied newt might look cool. Plus in Warhammer 5th edition they can breathe fire so I wanted something that would tie in with that. I basecoated it with Vallejo game air orange over a white undercoat which looked quite nice but was a bit wishy-washy.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana;"><br /></span></div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8tFqipx5XBbpAHgYVPg6xlt8fbBKxVPgInbH8repX_VV8QvE4SjY42BlN-6qvOzQ4eHXknwGM7cYXKz5GHsgZ6DNp9vT7McO4FymwkAm6_9m-kJ0wkiiiIkIxgstmU8LlwV_-yfVadB4/s2048/wip+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8tFqipx5XBbpAHgYVPg6xlt8fbBKxVPgInbH8repX_VV8QvE4SjY42BlN-6qvOzQ4eHXknwGM7cYXKz5GHsgZ6DNp9vT7McO4FymwkAm6_9m-kJ0wkiiiIkIxgstmU8LlwV_-yfVadB4/w300-h400/wip+2.jpg" width="300" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: x-small;">Basecoats looking better.</span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div><span style="font-family: verdana;">So I painted on a sort of striped pattern with Citadel blazing orange which gave it a bit more life. It still needed some depth though, so I put on a coat of Reikland fleshshade. I tried doing the claws in purple but that looked dreadful as well, how frustrating! In the end, I settled on a nice neutral colour.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana;"><br /></span></div><div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfUiWwCguXBay56SGKbY3pfkBDE6CraO7dGT1GFIf7tcP4Cd7m_CpGKrp9XcFKLBTYTk7R2A_VXarEin1ScqX4uSC7RI5E693mHdpt16_GjwdV-2XX1R1GcBi19WwRDQ3z99amCV1WtHA/s2048/Hydra+zoom.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1634" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfUiWwCguXBay56SGKbY3pfkBDE6CraO7dGT1GFIf7tcP4Cd7m_CpGKrp9XcFKLBTYTk7R2A_VXarEin1ScqX4uSC7RI5E693mHdpt16_GjwdV-2XX1R1GcBi19WwRDQ3z99amCV1WtHA/w319-h400/Hydra+zoom.jpg" width="319" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: x-small;">That's a lot of heads to paint.</span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><span style="font-family: verdana;">By comparison, the shaman rider was very easy to paint. I like the final colour scheme, but I'm worried that it clashes horribly with the rest of the army! Time to go for some stretch goals then! I've been working on a unit of old metal ogres as part of the goblin horde and I have a few more to paint, so it seems like a good time to break them out and see if I can finish them as well!</span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana;"><br /></span></div><div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhysN28i-I91pIu5pLbqjaWmMqC6Sc8Qnz1juKZgBqlZyxbkDUKW0OFU_lXkZ7cLQ90iTHAYW7AnCXmk1WWCzFKrSWcYS2VFRPq1dObeMW8HSCWC5_mKUhTHd8vy-N6LgdL9HH8vHKH0wc/s2048/PSX_20210220_165123.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1570" data-original-width="2048" height="306" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhysN28i-I91pIu5pLbqjaWmMqC6Sc8Qnz1juKZgBqlZyxbkDUKW0OFU_lXkZ7cLQ90iTHAYW7AnCXmk1WWCzFKrSWcYS2VFRPq1dObeMW8HSCWC5_mKUhTHd8vy-N6LgdL9HH8vHKH0wc/w400-h306/PSX_20210220_165123.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: x-small;">Here's two I made earlier.</span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><span style="font-family: verdana;">I love these classic ogre models and it would be great to finish the unit. That seemed to come around quickly!</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana;">For those who are unaware, Monster March is a community painting event hosted by Swordmaster over at <a href="http://swordmasterofhoeth.blogspot.com/2021/02/monster-march-part-1.html" target="_blank">Path of an Outcast</a>. I have participated for the last four years and am very much looking forward to getting involved again this year with the hydra pictured below.</span></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRk9dYWgT-mZkTDsdLox_I5iXF4eWzgpwUDj8rKHOKsmriF790Bmoah-mWP-Km-VujA113bRx-Bw4zB0s75hQcy09Fxu_M8wh3X4yLlSRFcdvazBV8lv75LS43Sgp4e4UCzWePotfBgXU/s2048/20210301_103052.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRk9dYWgT-mZkTDsdLox_I5iXF4eWzgpwUDj8rKHOKsmriF790Bmoah-mWP-Km-VujA113bRx-Bw4zB0s75hQcy09Fxu_M8wh3X4yLlSRFcdvazBV8lv75LS43Sgp4e4UCzWePotfBgXU/w300-h400/20210301_103052.jpg" width="300" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: x-small;">White undercoat for that old school look.</span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana;">It's been quite a while since I updated the blog, but I felt like making the effort to support my favourite community painting event. Over the past couple of months I have been delving back into Warhammer Fantasy 5th edition and returning to my early wargaming roots. I've updated my ancient Dwarf army and begun building a horde of Night Goblins as well. The hydra which I will be painting for Monster March will form part of this force.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana;">For anyone who doesn't remember the old orc and goblin rules from 5th edition fantasy (probably everyone?) they have a huge selection of monsters which can be ridden by various characters. I've chosen to add a hydra ridden by a Night Goblin shaman mostly because they're uncommon and I like the model.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana;">The hydra itself is part of the Start Collecting: Anvilgard box set which I split with Blazmo over at <a href="http://tabletopapocalypse.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Tabletop Apocalypse</a>. He's working on a Dark Elf force, so it worked out nicely. For the shaman rider, I mostly used parts from the Night Goblin boss model along with a couple of chains from the Drukhari range.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana;">So far, I've built the model along with the rider and primed it white. Next up is basing and then I'll start slapping on some basecoats. I'm not really sure what colour I want to paint it yet, so tune in next time to find out!</span></p>Ed OMalleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15279877134200895040noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5343833524864266606.post-38967354807513319982020-10-23T01:54:00.003-07:002020-10-23T01:54:24.975-07:00Adeptus Titanicus - Legio Fureans Warbringer Nemesis Titan<p><span style="font-family: verdana;">It took me a little while to paint this one up but I'm back with another tiny titan for my Legio Fureans forces.</span></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf73pi21BdoJxCyUqlBW3GTcN8ddlackAN_IVOkdnZj1ARIscCZp5qTp6RYoIR6045x0A4PetQKXDIKVfuaFx1wQQkOep3GlyzBADnunFivdDUO-e8aDIcNWLbHGKfAdod-MXFPMwPQUA/s2048/PSX_20201021_202022.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1540" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf73pi21BdoJxCyUqlBW3GTcN8ddlackAN_IVOkdnZj1ARIscCZp5qTp6RYoIR6045x0A4PetQKXDIKVfuaFx1wQQkOep3GlyzBADnunFivdDUO-e8aDIcNWLbHGKfAdod-MXFPMwPQUA/w301-h400/PSX_20201021_202022.jpg" width="301" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: x-small;">Serious firepower!</span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><span style="font-family: verdana;">I really like the look of the Nemesis Warbringer, so it's a joy to have one (even a tiny one) in my Fureans maniple. However, a number of factors have made me want to move away from 40k. First off, lockdown due to Covid-19 has caused a dramatic decrease in the number of games I've been able to play over recent months. This, coupled with the increasing complexity of faction special rules (most prevalent with Space Marines) has made me lose interest somewhat. I still love 40k and still want to play it, but it feels like time for a bit of a step back and to try something new.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana;">I've wanted to try smaller scale gaming for some time but have been put off of Adeptus Titanicus due to the pricing. However, as it was my Birthday this month I was able to get the starter set as a gift from my lovely wife. So far, I'm very impressed with the miniatures and the rules, although I've yet to try them out on the tabletop.</span></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggc1GI0uyWIg7_0enwOXbF7yaxkvFlTCkMtLBcsMOVYuEU0afWdxrjNl7lOv6bkrqQlaYtvh2wlhmFl3eTv-lZ_4japOzEnWq9yu55IA1FjkiKv8H0ynZW0x4S4MU6LzHWXiHCCcV9WtA/s2048/PSX_20200921_141048.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: x-small;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1638" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggc1GI0uyWIg7_0enwOXbF7yaxkvFlTCkMtLBcsMOVYuEU0afWdxrjNl7lOv6bkrqQlaYtvh2wlhmFl3eTv-lZ_4japOzEnWq9yu55IA1FjkiKv8H0ynZW0x4S4MU6LzHWXiHCCcV9WtA/w320-h400/PSX_20200921_141048.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: x-small;">I chose Legio Fureans, basically because they look cool.<br /></span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><span style="font-family: verdana;">In terms of the awesome little titans, my plan is to paint them up as two different forces. I've named her Bavajuda, which roughly translates as Spite.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana;">For the loyalist forces, I'm thinking that it will be Legio Atarus. Sorry posts have been a bit few and far between, I've been working from home these last few months and it's been a bit disruptive for my blogging schedule. I haven't been idle on the hobby front though. I used the time to break out my Cerastus Knight Atropos and get her painted.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Hazardous!</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The Atropos is my favourite pattern of Imperial Knight so I pulled out all the stops to try and do the model justice. I tried really hard with the hazard chevrons and the checkerboard and overall I'm really pleased with the way she turned out.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Those of you who have followed this blog for a while will be familiar with the green and beige scheme common to my knights and adeptus mechanicus. I've used the same scheme here and I've tried to add some more interest with the patterned panels and transfers. I tried to make the base interesting too by adding a small piece of terrain and some rocky debris.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">First up is this scythed Hierodule. I've always thought the Hierodule models were a bit old hat, but having one in hand I have to say that the sculpt has really held up to the test of time. She's a lovely thing and I'm pleased to have one as part of the swarm. I may even look at adding a barbed Hierodule at a later date.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">In terms of painting, all of these were done using the usual quick paint scheme for my Tyranids. I've been painting them this way for twelve years and although the scheme has undergone some refinement, it's still broadly the same.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">It was really nice to get this one done as it's a bit of a classic. As you can see I changed out all the weapons, mostly because I thought it looked cooler with the Deathspitter/Bonesword loadout. It's not the most competitive thing on the planet, but rule of cool wins out every time.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I've said it before, I'm not really a fan of Tyranid special characters but as the swarm cruised past the 6000 point mark I thought it was about time I added The Swarmlord to the mix. It helps that I like the model but I doubt I will field him much.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Inspired by my own work on the Contemptor Achillus, I decided to dig out this Telemon Dreadnought and get it built. I've been working steadily on my Contemptor Achillus and it's coming along really well.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">A bit messy at this stage, but plenty of colours on there.</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">As you can see from the above, I've got a lot of the basecoats down and started highlighting and detailing the lower half of the model. I managed a bit of work on the left arm last night too and I think things are looking good for only one week in to the challenge.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'm reasonably happy with the pose.</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">As far as the model itself is concerned, I was tempted to go for a more complex pose than the one I eventually chose. However, when I considered that this will be a gaming piece, I decided that a simpler pose will be less prone to breakages along the way. Perhaps if I ever get a second Achillus I will be more adventurous with it.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The left leg has had the most work so far.</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So that's where things stand at the end of the first week. If I can carry on at this rate then I should have no trouble completing the challenge. That of course, opens up the possibility of a stretch goal.......but we'll see how things progress over the coming days. As usual you can check out my first post of the challenge <a href="http://berserkerbladeblog.blogspot.com/2020/02/monster-march-adeptus-custodes.html" target="_blank">here</a>.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Tune in next week to see if I've maintained progress, who knows, I might have a second model to announce!</span>Ed OMalleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15279877134200895040noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5343833524864266606.post-15962926623701011872020-03-02T08:52:00.001-08:002020-03-02T08:52:15.556-08:00Old Stuff Day 2020<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Not a tradition I've been part of previously, but I love the <a href="https://warhammer39999.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">Warhammer 39,999</a> blog and Old Stuff Day is something he started ages ago. <span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I love messing about with big resin kits so this was a heck of a good time for me. It's nice to have a post about it on the blog too so I can go back and enjoy it again.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'm also going to share a battle report from Tabletop Apocalypse when my Tyranids took on his Steel Legion back in 2018. It was a brilliant game and it's a great write up too so you should go and read it now:</span><br />

If you're unaware, <a href="http://swordmasterofhoeth.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Monster March</a> is an annual painting challenge hosted by Swordmaster over at <a href="http://swordmasterofhoeth.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Path of an Outcast</a>. The purpose being for participants to build and paint a suitably large model in the month of March.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I've participated in Monster March since 2017 and it's probably my favourite of the blogger painting challenges. It really gives me the incentive to turn out a big impressive model for one of my armies. You can read my previous posts <a href="http://berserkerbladeblog.blogspot.com/search/label/Monster%20March" target="_blank">here</a>.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This year I'll be continuing the theme of Squaduary by growing my Adeptus Custodes army still further with the addition of a Contemptor Achillus Dreadnought.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2iEmIUmUs6G5bVBADCMFA-GsZx_O-Zk16vRHQXBC566WHOKSS6k2YobitgF1DfiYBSU2ZNsi09ORYQjBgPPT202X3UvnBm5inQ_8vqbyz8NuAOVVVQK7FeBc6fQNVUX1O_9gDIyph8JU/s1600/99560108178_AchillusDreadnought01.webp" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" data-original-height="950" data-original-width="920" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2iEmIUmUs6G5bVBADCMFA-GsZx_O-Zk16vRHQXBC566WHOKSS6k2YobitgF1DfiYBSU2ZNsi09ORYQjBgPPT202X3UvnBm5inQ_8vqbyz8NuAOVVVQK7FeBc6fQNVUX1O_9gDIyph8JU/s400/99560108178_AchillusDreadnought01.webp" width="386" /></span></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The Forgeworld example. Isn't it pretty?</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The Achillus isn't as large as some models I've attempted in previous years but it's still an imposing and gorgeous centrepiece for the army. If I somehow manage to make excellent progress and finish early, then perhaps I'll attempt a second model within the month.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh74sRBHv9hgIwQQ5pgvzuNcbAE-dQxwo4zqfeSrs82dmlIGBsN4t-sltj0S4M9u9kkwZIcNyGRzwUc5uLpZaIaaRH1iBn75rEpBQFZ0Bs1R3R1pK53v_DFxorQpBH-b-01LJ8CzuqPqMg/s1600/20200227_215803.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh74sRBHv9hgIwQQ5pgvzuNcbAE-dQxwo4zqfeSrs82dmlIGBsN4t-sltj0S4M9u9kkwZIcNyGRzwUc5uLpZaIaaRH1iBn75rEpBQFZ0Bs1R3R1pK53v_DFxorQpBH-b-01LJ8CzuqPqMg/s400/20200227_215803.jpg" width="300" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I've made a rough start building the model.</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I started building the model last night and have managed to get the legs and body together so far. The rear requires a tiny bit of green stuff where a couple of the panels don't align perfectly, but otherwise the model is delightful. I'm really looking forward to having a go at posing the arms as they appear to be superbly articulated.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I've also exchanged the standard 60mm base out for a scenic base from Scibor miniatures. Hopefully it will remain in keeping with the rest of my Custodes whilst being suitably grandiose as befits such an amazing model.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Check back next week to see if painting has commenced!</span>Ed OMalleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15279877134200895040noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5343833524864266606.post-6240851824629053892020-02-28T01:47:00.003-08:002020-02-28T01:47:55.565-08:00Squaduary 2020 - Adeptus Custodes Vertus Praetors - Complete<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So the end of the month looms large and with it, the end of Squaduary 2020. <span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">As you can see, I've added another completed jetbike to my squad of Vertus Praetors. Now I only have one model left to complete for the full squad! <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">That's right, your eyes do not deceive you, I've managed to finish painting the first of my Vertus Praetors for the three model squad. I used the colour scheme shown in my <a href="http://berserkerbladeblog.blogspot.com/2020/01/squaduary-2020-adeptus-custodes-vertus.html" target="_blank">previous post</a>, but I modified the purple slightly as I wasn't 100% happy with the original. <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">As for the other two jetbikes, I've managed to build one of them and about half of the other. Hopefully I can get them primed this weekend and then crack on with the painting. It's too early yet to say how the month will pan out, but I certainly hope to keep up the pace and work through the squad.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I'm particularly happy with the result I got on the blade of the lance. I used the same feathering technique I had tried previously on the swords of my <a href="http://berserkerbladeblog.blogspot.com/2019/02/squaduary-2019-sicarian-infiltrators_21.html" target="_blank">Sicarian Infiltrators</a> but refined it slightly. This time around I even tried out using a wet palette and I was a little nonplussed. It certainly elongated the drying time of the paint on the palette, but I feel as though I could achieve a similar result with a conventional palette. Perhaps further use will divulge the supposed brilliance of the wet palette.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><a href="https://steppingbetweengames.com/" target="_blank">Squaduary</a>, by the way, is an annual painting initiative run by Rory over at <a href="https://steppingbetweengames.com/" target="_blank">Stepping Between Games</a>. It encourages participants to paint up a squad of miniatures during the month of February. Having got off to a good start myself, I'm looking forward to seeing what my fellow Squaddies have got up to. If you're interested, check <a href="https://steppingbetweengames.com/" target="_blank">Stepping Between Games</a> every week during February to see the community results.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">As you may know, I've been doing this for a few years now and have made some good progress by doing so. Hopefully this year will be no exception.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Honestly, I am slightly daunted by the prospect of painting up three Praetors in a month. I know it's only a distant memory now, but better late than never, right? I hope you all had a delightful and productive holiday. I thoroughly enjoyed having a break and got a good bit of painting done to boot.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">First up, I painted a Kastelan robot to add to my ever growing squadron (brigade? phalanx??).</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Punchy fists for a change.</span></td></tr>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It was nice to paint another one of these guys, so much so in fact, that I completed a second one over the weekend. No photos of that one though, so you'll have to make do with a different angle on the first one.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I figure, adding a pair of punchbots to my force gives me some different options and a more aggressive Mechanicus list might be fun to try. I have a game lined up tomorrow evening, so we'll see how that pans out.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">As for painting, adding some transfers and static grass tufts to these chaps really sets them off nicely. I'm still not 100% happy with the lenses, but they'll do I suppose.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Next up, I painted a random Electropriest and a Skitarii who were hanging around the painting table. Both of these are part of squads which I intend to finish this year, so it's a step in the right direction.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And finally, some time before Christmas, I painted up a couple of Ursarax to add to my growing Mechanicum contingent. Here's one of them that hasn't appeared on the blog before now.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">As I said in my last <a href="http://berserkerbladeblog.blogspot.com/2019/10/dreadtober-2019-night-lords-leviathan_31.html" target="_blank">post</a>, this one felt like a bit of a slog to get to the finish line. It was by turns enjoyable and frustrating but, in the end, I'm happy with how it turned out.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I haven't changed the paint scheme much since painting my <a href="http://berserkerbladeblog.blogspot.com/2016/10/horus-heresy-night-lords-legion-showcase.html" target="_blank">Night Lords</a> back in 2016. But, I feel my painting ability has been refined somewhat, so I was able to make small improvements throughout. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'm not sure when this monstrosity will see the battlefield; but I am thinking of changing my Night Lords Legion force into a Chaos Space Marine army for 40k. So perhaps they will all see some action if that comes to pass.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">There's not a lot of interest in Horus Heresy gaming in my local area; which is a shame, because I love the miniatures and the story. It hasn't stopped me buying and painting the things, but it would be nice to use them from time to time.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Unfortunately, real life seemed determined to get in the way this month. I got sick, which put me out of action for a few days and crucially I lost a weekend of painting progress. I also had to go through the process of buying a new car which proved to be time consuming.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">On a happier note, I went up to Warhammer World last week for a day of gaming with some friends. We had a lot of fun, but I could have used that time instead to get some more progress on the Dreadnought. It's all about priorities I suppose.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So, that concludes Dreadtober 2019. My thanks to Joel from <a href="http://mordian7th.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Mordian 7th</a> for organising it and for posting all the updates over at the <a href="https://dreadtober.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Dreadtober</a> blog.</span><br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Still lots left to do.</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">There seem to be a lot of unpleasant illnesses going around at the moment and I was unfortunate enough to come down with one of them last week. Cue plenty of bed rest and no painting progress. Annoyingly it put me out of action over the weekend when I could have made a good bit of progress. These things happen I suppose, but it's frustrating nonetheless.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Anyway, enough of my lame excuses. I did finish painting the left arm and have made a start detailing the body/head etc. I'm pretty pleased with the look of the finished areas, but there's a lot of Dreadnought still to paint and time is running short!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Just under two weeks to go, can I finish the Dread in time? Or will I fall into the ranks of the dishonoured? Here's hoping I find a good chunk of painting time to finish this bad boy!</span>Ed OMalleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15279877134200895040noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5343833524864266606.post-9031746572665268812019-10-09T06:44:00.002-07:002019-10-09T06:44:44.565-07:00Dreadtober 2019 - Night Lords Legion Leviathan Dreadnought - Week 2<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We're just over a week into Dreadtober (where did that week go??) and I've made some progress with my Night Lords Leviathan Dreadnought.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5arvIbkSkldGd6rEXOFdAcpjFTRMmlC-0gz1IVlp5Kw9LzhnMzSOgnNsZDmdK0v9aVKxIjJsvJDRHbjIJi4TkJxM_1FfmPe375Xyq6wEK_AK-8GYJmYJZHSBxpugtlLi_CJ20bPzSBpg/s1600/20191009_085051.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1411" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5arvIbkSkldGd6rEXOFdAcpjFTRMmlC-0gz1IVlp5Kw9LzhnMzSOgnNsZDmdK0v9aVKxIjJsvJDRHbjIJi4TkJxM_1FfmPe375Xyq6wEK_AK-8GYJmYJZHSBxpugtlLi_CJ20bPzSBpg/s400/20191009_085051.jpg" width="352" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Not a lot of progress but it's something.</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">As you can see from the above, I've done a load of ugly basecoats and made a start detailing the left arm. I've found in the past with Dreadnoughts that I prefer to paint them a piece at a time; so I've basecoated almost everything and now I'll paint a limb to completion. Apparently we're starting with the left arm because of reasons.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbygn3TqGO26qLlYjwrIKWvoGQSr9Jg5rDflK90LeQi4yH29JQO0lwWEog_tob8uU8r6eYOH0eF4p0sorVXEb9lDlCGkXZTEqxeQDFru4bx5cCDca7p0ohoO3A8ginZWJbhXh3VOln1xE/s1600/20191009_085108.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1495" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbygn3TqGO26qLlYjwrIKWvoGQSr9Jg5rDflK90LeQi4yH29JQO0lwWEog_tob8uU8r6eYOH0eF4p0sorVXEb9lDlCGkXZTEqxeQDFru4bx5cCDca7p0ohoO3A8ginZWJbhXh3VOln1xE/s400/20191009_085108.jpg" width="373" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">What's big, blue and ugly?</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Despite not having made fabulous progress, I'm really liking this model. It's got loads of cool details which really evoke the image of the 8th Legion. There's plenty of obvious things like the dismembered body on the front housing. But there are lots of little touches which I've enjoyed discovering as I progress.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Oh, and if you saw my <a href="http://berserkerbladeblog.blogspot.com/2019/10/dreadtober-2019-night-lords-legion.html" target="_blank">last post</a>, you'll notice that this chap now has a pair of big claws and some heavy flamers. Perfect for a Legion that specializes in terror tactics!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Tune in next week when hopefully I will have made lots more progress as the end of October looms large.</span><br />

This time around I will be bringing out a Night Lords Leviathan Dreadnought and trying to finish it before Halloween.</span><br />

</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This year is a bit different for me. Firstly, because I normally go into a challenge with the models assembled and, as you can see from the above, we aren't quite there yet. Secondly, because I'm doing something for my Night Lords, which is a force I haven't added to in quite some time. Here's hoping I remember how to paint them!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">For anyone who is unaware, <a href="https://dreadtober.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Dreadtober</a> is an annual event which encourages participants to build and paint a Dreadnought (or Dreadnought like thing) during the month of October. This year being hosted by Joel of <a href="http://mordian7th.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Mordian 7th</a>. Thanks for running the event Joel and keeping the tradition going. Now hopefully I can fulfill my pledge and get this beast painted up in a month.</span><br />
