Horus Heresy Night Lords - Painting Showcase

I'm back with some more Night Lords. There's a real mix here, some of these were completed prior to the release of the Age of Darkness box; some are miniatures from the boxed set; and some are new kits that I've since bought and painted.

First up is a unit of Tartaros terminators which I've had ever since the Burning of Prospero set was released. I wanted to get these done before the second edition of the game and I'm pleased to say I did exactly that.

They've been constructed with a bit of a strange mixed loadout, I think I just went for whatever I thought was cool at the time. Not the most efficient by any means and, as I've yet to try them out in battle, I can't really comment on their tabletop prowess.

As with all my Night Lords I added trophies taken from a variety of different sources. I'm particularly pleased with the flayed skin cape on the power sword wielding model.

The unit as a whole

Next up is the Spartan Assault Tank from the Age of Darkness box. Like many Heresy players, this was the model I was most excited to get my hands on and it certainly didn't disappoint.

I've added an apothecary with a jump pack in an effort to keep my assault marines alive.

Then there's this fun little graviton rapier carrier proxy. I got this from Anvil Industry years ago.

I also built a terror squad using the mk6 bodies from the Age of Darkness box. A variety of other parts were used to make these look legion specific.

This rhino was made from a chaos rhino kit which I picked up on the cheap along with some (now OOP) legion specific upgrades from Forgeworld.

The recon squad are another purchase from Anvil Industry which I made on a Black Friday several years ago. I added a beaky helmet from an old marine sprue.

I love volkite weapons, so a full squad of volkite culverins was a no brainer. These have been absolutely lethal on the tabletop.

I built myself some Contekar using 3d printed parts and plastic Tartaros bodies. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out.

The below is just the current plastic predator kit. This was lovely to build and has been a powerhouse on the battlefield. A source of cheap anti-tank is always useful.

Then we have the Kratos, the not-quite superheavy of the plastic tank range. I love the way this thing looks and it's an absolute menace on the table.

From large to small, next is a sabre strike tank. This was 3d printed by a friend and then I added a couple of plastic bits. A great little tank which I have used frequently.

Continuing with 3d prints, we have a Seeker squad. These have also proven quite effective with their rending bolts and high ballistic skill. Really good for removing key enemy infantry units.

Finally some dreadnoughts. The below is a plastic Leviathan fitted with resin weapons simply because I had them handy.

Very finally is a 3d printed contemptor with double power fists. I'm pleased with the print quality on this one and he's been very useful as a melee threat on the table.

Dreadtober 2025 - Introduction

It's that time of year again. Time to blow the dust off another Dreadnought and replace it with a layer of paint. My painting mojo has been a little lacking of late, so I'm using Dreadtober as an excuse to get the brush moving again. I also have an excess of unpainted Dreadnoughts laying around, so this will hopefully move another one into the painted pile.

I'm going to be doing another Contemptor Dread for my Night Lords Heresy force this time around. I already have three painted, so he'll be in good company. This one is armed with a Gravis Autocannon and Power Fist just because it looks cool.

As you can see from the above, the model is built and undercoated, so all I have to do is slap some paint on it. How hard could that be? Well, I suppose we'll find out.

Night Lords - Horus Heresy: Age of Darkness

It's been forever since I've posted here, but I've not been idle. For your amusement I present a selection of miniatures from my ever growing Night Lords Legion army which I've been building since the release of the Horus Heresy second edition.

First up is a converted Chaplain which I made from one of the Praetors which comes in the Age of Darkness box.

Jump Chaplain

I decided to go with an axe on this guy and then field it as a Headsman's Axe in game. I know technically they're supposed to be chain weapons, but my regular opponents can't tell the difference. I added a jump pack so he can support either my assault marines or night raptors depending on which squad is being played.

Next up is Sevatar. Technically my Night Lords are on the road to Terra, so he shouldn't be included as part of the army. But he's a brilliant character and a cool model to boot, so I had to have him in the collection.

Death to the False Emperor!

Speaking of Night Raptors, here's a unit of 5 I added to the army. I have 5 already painted from my forays into the Horus Heresy during the first edition for the game. So generally I envisage that these will be used as a big unit of 10. Clocking in at a whopping 400 points, they're terribly inefficient, but I do love the models and the background.

I painted a classic box dreadnought which I've had kicking around for years. It's a really nice classic Forgeworld model and I'm glad to have it finished and added to the army.

Old school cool

Last but very much not least. I painted up a super-heavy tank in the form of the Falchion. I got this in a part trade with a friend who had started building the kit but lost enthusiasm. It needed a fair bit of repair work to get it to a decent state and I needed two attempts to get it painted because the sponsons were absolute murder. I'm very jealous of anyone who owns the modern kit which comes with the plastic sponsons.

I really love the way this thing looks; it reminds me of the old mammoth tanks from Command & Conquer.

Adeptus Titanicus - Legio Atarus Warhound Titan

Following on from my last post I've painted up a Legio Atarus Warhound to oppose my Legio Fureans forces.

The first Legio Atarus titan walks!

At times this felt like a bit of a grind to paint because I don't find the colour scheme as exciting as the yellow and black of Fureans. However, now that it's done I'm very pleased with the finished product. I chose to arm this one with two twin turbolaser destructors (the best weapon name in the whole of 40k!) just so that the two Warhounds have different weapons. The weapons are magnetised in any case, so they can be swapped out between games.

As with my Legio Fureans titan I've used contrast paints for the eye lenses, weapons and the base. I'm really liking the easy effect of using these paints and definitely want to experiment with them more in future.

So, with one titan each for the traitors and loyalists it's time to get a couple of test games in! Come back next time for a quick rundown of my thoughts on the game and to find out the winner of the first little skirmish.

Adeptus Titanicus - The first steps of a new Princeps

 As the title suggests I'm dipping my toes into a new game. Namely Adeptus Titanicus!

As many of you will know, I am a regular 40k player. However, a number of factors have made me want to move away from 40k. First off, lockdown due to Covid-19 has caused a dramatic decrease in the number of games I've been able to play over recent months. This, coupled with the increasing complexity of faction special rules (most prevalent with Space Marines) has made me lose interest somewhat. I still love 40k and still want to play it, but it feels like time for a bit of a step back and to try something new.

I've wanted to try smaller scale gaming for some time but have been put off of Adeptus Titanicus due to the pricing. However, as it was my Birthday this month I was able to get the starter set as a gift from my lovely wife. So far, I'm very impressed with the miniatures and the rules, although I've yet to try them out on the tabletop.

I chose Legio Fureans, basically because they look cool.

In terms of the awesome little titans, my plan is to paint them up as two different forces. That way I might be able to do a bit of socially distanced gaming with them. I've chosen Legio Fureans as my traitor forces and painted up the first warhound in their colours. I've named her Bavajuda, which roughly translates as Spite.

For the loyalist forces, I'm thinking that it will be Legio Atarus. That way I can set all the battles within the second Paramar V campaign which creates a nice historical narrative.

Sorry for the lack of posts recently. Working from home has somehow left me less time for blogging (I kind of feel like it should be the other way around!) I will make the effort to do more regular updates here so you can follow my Titanicus journey.
